Signatures and identities

Use more than one signature, choose which address a message is sent from, and send as an external address.

Signatures#

You can keep several signatures and pick one per message. One of them can be your default, marked Default.

  • On iPhone and Android: open Settings > Signature to create, edit or delete signatures. Each one has a name and a body. Signatures are stored on your account.
  • On the web composer: the signature appears under your message. If you have more than one, use the signature button at the bottom of the window to choose which one to insert. The chosen signature is ticked.

Choose the From address#

When you can send from more than one address, the composer shows a From field. The list can include:

  • Your SipherMail address.
  • Aliases on your account.
  • Addresses on your own custom domain, once that domain is fully verified.
  • External addresses you have added and verified.

On the phone apps, the compose screen has a From picker in the same place.

Custom domain addresses#

An address on your own domain only appears in the From list after the domain’s MX, SPF and DKIM records are all verified. Set that up first, see Custom domains. On the web, the domain list is at Settings > Custom Domains.

Send as an external address#

You can send from an address that lives with another provider, for example a work address.

  1. Open Settings > Sending Addresses.
  2. Select Add address and enter the address. You can add a display name.
  3. If SipherMail knows the provider, it fills in the SMTP settings. Otherwise enter the SMTP host, port, security and your username and password. An app password is recommended.
  4. Select Test connection, then Send verification code.
  5. SipherMail sends a 6-digit code to that address through your SMTP server. Enter it under Enter verification code.

After it shows "Address verified", the address appears in the From field. Remove an address from the same page at any time.

Addresses connected through Outlook sign-in show as "Connected via Microsoft". Sending as a Gmail address through Google sign-in is rolling out.
