What stays on the device#
The app keeps recent mail in a local database on the phone and paints your inbox from it before it talks to the network. That keeps the inbox quick to open and readable without a connection.
The app keeps:
- every thread from the last 30 days, and
- the newest 2000 threads, whichever gives more.
Starred threads, drafts and snoozed threads are always kept. Older mail stays on the server and you can still open it when you are online.
When you are offline#
A line at the top of the list tells you the state, for example No internet. Showing saved mail. or Can’t reach Sipher. Showing saved mail. Search then covers saved mail only. Anything not saved shows Not available offline yet until you reconnect. AI features such as summaries need a connection.
Send queue and Outbox#
If you send while offline, the message is queued instead of lost.
- A queued message appears as Will send when online with the subject. Choose Edit to take it back into the compose screen, or Cancel to remove it.
- If a message cannot be sent, the app keeps it and shows Retry, Edit and Discard. Retry tries again, Edit reopens it in compose, and Discard removes it after you confirm.
Actions like marking mail read are also saved and sent when the connection returns.
