Follow-ups is a list of conversations that need attention: ones you owe a reply to, and ones where you are waiting for someone else. It is part of Sipher AI, so it is greyed out in the sidebar while privacy mode is on.
Suggestions while you read#
When you open a conversation, Sipher AI can suggest a follow-up in a banner above the message: you owe a reply, or you are waiting on someone. The banner offers:
- Remind me: in 1 day, 3 days, 1 week, or at a date and time you pick. This creates a task linked to the conversation with a reminder at that time. If you give no time, the reminder is at 9:00 your time.
- Add to tasks: opens the new-task window with the conversation attached.
- Dismiss: hides the suggestion for that conversation.
Each conversation is checked once. Opening it again does not run another check or use more credits. If a new message arrives, it can be checked once more, and a dismissed conversation can be suggested again after new activity.
Nothing is checked when privacy mode is on, when your organisation has turned AI off, when Follow-up Detection is off, or when the newest message is end-to-end encrypted.
Find follow-ups in your inbox#
- Choose Follow-ups in the sidebar.
- Select Scan Inbox.
- When the scan ends you see how many conversations were scanned and how many follow-ups were found.
A scan looks at your 50 most recent Inbox conversations. It checks up to 15 conversations per scan that have not been checked since they last changed, so scan again to work through a busy inbox. Suggestions appear in Suggested for you with the same actions as the banner, and the sidebar badge counts them.
Scanning uses AI credits and stops when they run out.
Work through the list#
Use the filters All pending, Needs my reply, Waiting on them and Overdue. Each row shows the subject, the sender, the reason Sipher AI gave and a due date, and a label such as Due in 5h or Overdue by 1d. Select a row to open the conversation.
- Done removes it from the list.
- Snooze moves the due time by 3 hours, Tomorrow, 3 days or 1 week from now.
Turn it off#
Switch off Follow-up Detection under Settings > AI & Smart Features. Checks and scans then stop, with the message Follow-up detection is disabled on a scan. Existing items stay in the list.
On iPhone and Android#
The iPhone and Android apps have a Follow-ups screen.
